Using e-books

Where can I find e-books?

  • You can find individual e-books in Tamcat except the books in ECCO (Eighteenth Century Collections Online) and EEBO (Early English Books Online) collections.
  • E-book collections can be found in the list of databases. Choose database type: e-book databases.

How can I read e-books?

  • You can read e-books online (except some Ellibs books).
  • Most e-books you can also download to your device and read them offline. To download an e-book you need an Adobe ID and a reader suitable for reading e-books. See the Reading and downloading e-books page.

How can I access e-books?

  • You can read e-books on computers belonging to University of Tampere's and Tampere University Hospital's network.
  • You can also access e-books remotely from anywhere signing in to Tamcat with your basic user account of University of Tampere.

Where to contact in problem situations?

  • You can ask help from the Library's service desks, Library chat, by email: or book a time and come to the Library with your device.

Ebsco e-books

Book a librarian

By booking a meeting with a librarian you can get personal guidance on using e-books and downloading them to your own device. You can bring along your tablet or laptop computer.


Borrowable tablets

You can borrow a tablet from Arvo library or Linna library to read e-books and other library materials. The loan period is 2 weeks. In Arvo library there is also one tablet for short loan. It is not possible to reserve or renew a tablet.
